Sunrise on Cuernos del Paine, Chilean Patagonia
Moments like this make all the hard work worthwhile. I was aware Patagonian weather could make or break a trip and I waited in strong and freezing winds for 2 hours for this image. But 'bad' weather is often what makes for extraordinary lighting conditions. I couldn't believe my eyes when the sun cast its first subtle and seductive pink hues. I shot 2 rolls of film as fast as I could possibly move my freezing hands before the sun was behind clouds again for rest of the day. Of the 8 shots, only this one evoked the most beautiful colours I have ever photographed. I would love to be a painter, but I can't paint. I love how this image is somewhere in between painting and photography.
