Aerial view of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau ridge-crest, Bernese Alps, Switzerland
The Eiger with its two siblings, the Monch (left) and the Jungfrau (middle/furthest away). Having never been in a helicopter before, I was so excited to experience the Swiss Alps from a unique perspective on a clear day. Combining this virgin flight with photographing the area with a panoramic film camera mounted to a tripod roped to me (with the door dismounted from the heli) certainly emotionally escalated this experience beyond what I had mentally prepared myself for! Having given the pilot specific post-research instructions regarding altitude, approach, angle, distance from the Eiger and helicopter axial tilt due to the extreme wide angle lens I was using, I was extremely happy with this result. The Eiger's north face is actually in shade for most of the day, and is why it presents a serious challenge for climbers due to the length of the icy face. This is the reason I chose to go against conventional lighting and photograph the north face in shade.
